Shipping Documents to Brazil

Shipping to Brazil can be as easy as shipping to another state if you are just shipping documents. The important thing is establishing exactly what is regarded as a document and what is not. Firstly, you must know that document shipments must contain less that five documents and they should not contain commercial quantities without specific stipulation. In addition, the documents you are sending should not have a commercial purpose. You can easily send Advertising literature, Airline tickets, annual reports, bids, blueprints, cash letters, charts or computer printouts. You can send CDs but only the ones that contain personal data. Blanks CDs and those that contain intercompany data are considered non-documents and you must provide an invoice for them. Diskettes are not common these days but if you are planning to send them, you should know they have a similar status to CDs.  The CDs and diskettes must not contain software or they will be seen as non-documents.

The list of allowed documents continues with Drawings, Graphs, intercompany mail, manuscripts, microfilm, negatives, negotiable bonds and bank drafts (this includes blank checks and traveler’s checks).

Tapes are considered documents when shipping to Brazil only if they are not blank tapes and depending on the content. Photographs and slides are ok to send as documents and so is blank stationery. Other things that you can send as documents are passports, price lists, proposals, seismic data and sepia drawings. It may seem a long list but it is good to know them.

If what you are sending is not on the allowed documents list it does not necessarily mean it is ok for sending. Sometimes it possible that is included on the list of items that are prohibited or have some restrictions. Be sure to check that list also and only then go on with the shipping.

Documents must be placed in envelopes or boxes that are specially marked. The procedure of sending documents is much simpler than sending any other type of commodity. If it is not a document and sometimes even if it is but if it contains specific information or content, you will have to provide an invoice and other necessary paperwork.
